Welcome to the IDRS 36th Annual Conference!
Visit beautiful upstate New York for the 36th annual International Double Reed Society Conference, June 12-16, 2007. Located roughly halfway between Manhattan and Toronto, this thriving, culturally diverse city of 30,000 combines small-town warmth and charm with cosmopolitan flair. Home to Ithaca College and Cornell University, the Ithaca area attracts visitors, students, and scholars from around the globe. Rolling hills, breathtaking gorges, and splendid lakes offer countless outdoor activities. Fantastic restaurants, exciting nightlife, vibrant theater, mainstream and independent cinema, and live music abound. Ithaca is home to a group of eclectic artisans, award-winning wineries, towering waterfalls, museums and galleries, and plentiful shopping along the downtown commons.
In addition to hearing leading double-reed performers in concert, lectures, and master classes, and attending hundreds of exhibits, you are invited to indulge in wine tasting at over 30 wineries, enjoy hiking and sailing, shop at the Ithaca Commons and Farmer's Market, and admire over 150 waterfalls. Ithaca College was founded in 1892 as a conservatory of music. Now in its second century, the School of Music affirms its fundamental belief that music and the arts are essential to humankind. Alumni from the School of Music have distinguished themselves as teachers on every level, as performers in major orchestras and opera houses throughout the world and as arts administrators in a wide variety of musical organizations. Conference events will be held on campus in the
James J. Whalen Center for Music, the Hoerner Theater, and the Emerson
Suites. The opening concert will be held on the Ithaca College campus, in Ford
Auditorium, with a reception held in the nearby student center. The
closing concert will move to Bailey Hall on the Cornell campus. Both
will feature our local Cayuga Chamber Orchestra.
